East High Baseball Champions 1969

In 1968, Columbus’s East High School was one of many segregated schools in Ohio.

Columbus native and author Wil Haygood writes in his new book about his experiences growing up amongst racial tensions and witnessing the high school’s basketball and baseball teams win state championships, defeating richer, whiter schools across the state.

Today on All Sides, we discuss “Tigerland: 1968-1969: A City Divided, a Nation Torn Apart, and a Magical Season of Healing,” with Wil Haygood.

Guests:

  • Wil Haygood, author, “Tigerland: 1968-1969: A City Divided, a Nation Torn Apart, and a Magical Season of Healing”
  • Ernest Locke, former baseball player, East High School
  • Ed Ratleff, former baseball and basketball player, East High School
