Central Ohio's Kroger employees have agreed to a new labor deal.
The agreement with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1059 increases the starting wage at local Kroger stores to $10 an hour. It brings workers to $11 an hour after one year of service and gives more money to night shift workers.
The new contract comes well ahead of the previous contract’s expiration in August 2020.
“UFCW Local 1059 is pleased to have negotiated a new contract in mid-term that secures better wages, continues to provide affordable health care and provides a voice for our hardworking Kroger members,” said chapter president Randy Quickel in a press release from Kroger’s corporate offices.
The labor agreement covers about 13,000 employees at 83 Central Ohio stores.
"This agreement comes after thoughtful and productive work by both the company and union bargaining committees,” Dan De La Rosa, president of Kroger's Columbus division, said in the press release. “I want to thank our dedicated associates for supporting this agreement and for the excellent, uplifting service they provide to our customers every day."
