In an effort to “demystify science and engineering,” leaders of COSI announced on Tuesday that the science museum will host a four-day science festival next May.

COSI President and CEO Frederic Bertley says schools, churches and local businesses will host three days of science demonstrations, followed by a full day of demonstrations at COSI.

“The COSI Science Festival will showcase how exciting, interesting, fun, and accessible science is to all of us and how relevant it is to our daily lives. In addition, it will shine a light on the fantastic science, technology, and industry innovation in our great central Ohio region,” Bertley said in a release.

Research firm Battlle plans to contribute $850,000 to the festival over the next three years. Battelle President and CEO Lou Von Thaer says they hope to make the festival an annual event.

“Science isn’t scary, science isn’t nerdy. And we want to help our community understand it’s how the world works, it’s how Mother Nature works, and it’s how our economy works,” Von Thaer said at a Tuesday announcement.

To help make the festival accessible to everyone, all events will be free to attend.
