Anti-Abortion Bill Gains Traction
Ohio Right to Life, an influential anti-abortion group, was neutral on the "Heartbeat Bill," which would ban abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected, during past attempts to pass it. The Ohio Senate and House passed the measure last year, with no exceptions for rape, incest or the life of the mother, but it was vetoed by then-Gov. John Kasich.
With a more conservative U.S. Supreme Court and Gov. Mike DeWine expected to support such a measure, the organization has added the "Heartbeat Bill" to its legislative agenda. State senators are expected to introduce a new bill soon.
