Roll The Union On

In a 5-4 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that government workers who choose not to join a union cannot be forced to pay partial dues. The debate on this issue has a long history in Ohio and unions are bracingfor the possible impact of the decision.

General Assembly Breaks For Summer

The Ohio Senate did vote on allowing dogs on restaurant patios but decided not to vote on payday lending reforms, despite a push from citizen activists and national groups like the Pew Trust. Meanwhile, the House decided to save a vote on a controversial "Stand Your Ground" gun bill until after summer vacation, and save a vote on Kasich's gun reform bills for "never."

Sights On Seitz

The law firm hired to investigate a sexual harassment claim against state Sen. Bill Seitz also gave him a $1,000 campaign donation. Did we mention that Seitz also worked for the firm for 36 years? Oh, and the firm also gave a $10,000 donation to Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, who hired them in the first place.

An ethics grievance has been filed with the Ohio Supreme Court by a group that opposes Seitz' position on clean energy.
