Columbus Crew Executives To Present Detailed Stadium Plans

City Of Columbus
A new 20,000-seat stadium for the Columbus Crew SC is being proposed for the Arena District.

Columbus Crew executives will present a detailed plan of the new downtown stadium project and renderings to the Downtown Area Commission on Tuesday morning.

Columbus City Council recently approved the creation of a Community Authority to aid in paying off bonds issued for the Crew stadium project. They also appointed five people to the Confluence Development Authority, which will oversee the project.

In the past, Crew owners have said the $230 million project will include a 430,000-foot stadium with 20,000 seats, 30 suites and 1,900 club seats. It will sit within Confluence Village, just west of Huntington Park, which will also include a mixed-use residential and business park.

Last month, the Downtown Commission approved the destruction of nine abandoned building on the city-owned portion of the site to help build up Confluence Village.

The Crew announced it will host a groundbreaking at the stadium site October 10. The team does not yet own the land, and there is no clear timeline as to when it will.

The Crew hopes to play in the stadium by July 2021.
